Slovenes in Italy
The Slovenes in Italy form a very dynamic and active community. In the last decades they have developed their activities on the cultural field, in sport, economics, the media, and they are present in almost all social activities. They are also very active on the political field. The Slovene minority in Italy is organised mainly under two umbrella organisations: the politically-left wing Slovensko kulturno gospodarska zveza and the catholic Svet slovenskih organizacij.
The division into two organizations is rather common for the political and social structure of the Slovene minority. Because of the political discrepacies after the Second World War, and also before it, the Slovenes in Italy have never succeeded to form a common representative body that would have the task to plan linguistic and cultural politics.
Also the Slovene elected representatives in the Italian Parliament, in the Region, in the Provinces and in the Communes, represent the parties and not the Slovene community as a whole.
