The oldest Slovene community center in Europe
The first ideas about the association of Slovenes in Croatia are over a hundred years old. The Slovene community in Croatia can pride itself on the oldest Slovene community center in Europe, the Cultural Educational Society Slovene Community Center Zagreb, which has been functioning for 77 years, associating Slovenes in Zagreb. The second oldest society in Croatia is the Slovene Community Center, Cultural Educational Society Bazovica, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2007.
Lately, the interest in new societies has been increasing. Today the Association of Slovene Societies in Croatia associates eight Slovene societies with 4.000 members.
The main task of all the societies is to contribute to the preservation not only of Slovene national identity but also to contribute to Croatian culture, science and art.
